Your guide to full-spectrum edibles

What are Full-Spectrum Edibles?
Full spectrum edibles are made with RSO, otherwise known as Rick Simpson Oil. RSO is a whole plant cannabis concentrate oil that maintains the full cannabinoid and terpene profile of the plant. Unlike edibles made with distillate, full spectrum edibles allow the consumer to experience the desired effects of a Sativa or Indica strain.
What makes full-spectrum edibles different from other edibles?
Full-spectrum edibles contain whole plant extract, which includes all of a plant’s cannabinoids, terpenoids, flavonoids, and many other compounds. Because of this, full-spectrum products provide an “entourage effect” which occurs when the various compounds of the cannabis plant (most notably the cannabinoids and terpenes) work synergistically to provide different effects based on the included variables.
A full-spectrum gummy made with sativa flower might provide a more uplifting effect than a full-spectrum gummy made with indica flower, which might make users relaxed and sleepy.
We also hear from our patients and customers that full spectrum edibles provide longer-lasting and more targeted effects than distillate-based edibles.
How do full-spectrum edibles work?
We like to use the car & driver metaphor to explain our full-spectrum products. Think about the full-spectrum product like a car; the cannabinoid profile is the gas pedal, allowing the user to go on a trip when consumed (no pun intended). Meanwhile, the terpene profile is the steering wheel which determines the direction the car is going. The terpenes help to determine whether the effects are energizing, uplifting, creativity-inducing, appetite-stimulating, relaxing, sleep-inducing, calming, etc.
With full-spectrum products, you have a better idea of what the effects will be, based on the flower strain used to create the product and whether that strain was Indica or Sativa .
What kinds of full-spectrum products does Triple M make?
Triple M’s full-spectrum gummies are some of the first to hit the Massachusetts market. These gummies are made with whole-plant extract and are available in Indica or Sativa.
Triple M also makes full-spectrum RSO, which is also available in Indica or Sativa. Additionally, Triple M’s honey, capsules, and tinctures contain whole-plant extract and are classified as full-spectrum.
When you purchase full-spectrum products at Triple M, you will see the strain name and type on the packaging, which will tell you if it’s intended to provide indica or sativa-leaning effects.
How do I know if I need a full-spectrum product?
We always recommend that patients and customers consult with a healthcare professional before trying cannabis products.

Please note: The effects of terpenes consumed orally (via edibles) have yet to be studied comprehensively by clinical researchers. However, most of the effect results are anecdotally consistent. To put it simply, if you consume a full-spectrum gummy with terpenes you will likely feel the intended effects, but it has not been clinically studied. On the other hand, the effects of terpenes taken directly into the bloodstream via the lungs or the blood vessels in the mouth are well-documented and have been clinically studied, so full-spectrum products used for smoking/vaping or oromucosally are proven to provide indica or sativa-leaning effects.
